After months of hard graft, pupils at Arrochar Primary have a new community garden to enjoy.

Greenfingered volunteers took a year to design and build the fabulous green space which features a vegetable plot, decking, nature corners, a butterfly garden, and a willow tunnel.

Children rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in alongside staff, parents and an army of volunteers who helped bring the project to life with donations of plants, equipment and man hours.

The garden, which will be open to school pupils and everyone in the local community, was made possible thanks to a £10,000 cash boost from the Big Lottery Breathing Places grant scheme.

Pupils helped with designing, planting and decision making and are now in the process of picking a name for the garden. They recently made ceramic tiles with the help of Tom Butcher from Mansefiled Studios, which will eventually be placed in the garden as stepping stones and ornamental features.

Aileen Fisher, chair of Arrochar Primary Parent Teacher Association said the whole village had enjoyed getting involved.

She added: “It was hard work, especially during the winter when the weather wasn’t very good but seeing the children in the finished garden makes you realise what a worthwhile project it has been. It’s a great community resource.”
