HELENSBURGH’S MSP says new figures revealing a sharp rise in the number of people facing court action for unpaid council tax show Scotland’s economy is “fundamentally broken”.
The number of people issued with summary warrants for unpaid council tax has increased by nearly 40 per cent in the last five years – sparking serious concerns about a crisis in Scotland’s cost of living.
Jackie Baillie said: “It is disgraceful that in 2018 the richest one per cent in Scotland owns more personal wealth than the poorest 50 per cent.
“Our economy needs to be transformed so that all can share in the nations’ wealth.”
