PLANS for a hybrid housing and tourism development in Kilcreggan have been submitted – nearly two years after they were first announced.

Lucid Developments is looking to build seven accommodation units, a community hub building, an access pathway and car park, as well as carry out landscaping arrangements in the village.

The proposed development would be situated at land to the north of the boat yard, on a hillside site behind the village medical centre.

The plans are available on Argyll and Bute Council’s planning website under the number 18/01546/PP. Comments can be submitted until Tuesday, August 28 and a decision is expected from the authority’s planning department by the end of September.

A new path into the village is also part of the plans, meaning that pedestrians do not need to walk along the narrow road.

Speaking when the plans were first mooted to members of Cove and Kilcreggan Community Council in September 2016, Andy Whyte of Lucid Developments said: “We've been looking at development ideas for a little over a year now. We wanted to take our time to come up with good ideas and good quality designs.

“We feel there's a much nicer project here than 'normal' developer housing. The units we're hoping to create would have great flexibility – they could be used as visitor accommodation, second homes or studio space. We want to know what people think would work.

“There is an active community here of young people and people who do interesting jobs. Elsewhere on the west coast communities are struggling because there aren't enough people living there and they're reliant only on tourists, but it's not like that here.”
