The curtain has come down on an “incredibly successful” run of shows at Victoria Halls for Helensburgh Savoy Musical Theatre Group.

The group put on five performances of Calamity Jane in four days last week, achieving record ticket sales in the process.

Two of the shows sold-out, with the other three also being very well attended.

Secretary Pauline Forrest said: “Helensburgh Savoy cast members were thrilled to be back on stage again after such a long gap, and we are so grateful for the support of our audiences in making it so special.

“We were also able to raise £628 on behalf of the Helensburgh and Lomond Food Bank from our very generous audiences as they left at the end of each performance.

“We have had some very nice comments as the audience left the halls, and reviews on our Facebook page, with people commenting on the standard of the performance such as, ‘you wouldn’t think it was an amateur production’, ‘an amazing show’, ‘what talent, a brilliant show’.”

The show was the group’s first musical production since its production of Legally Blonde in November 2019.

Due to the pandemic and subsequent restrictions, the Savoy performers only made their return to the stage in April this year at their spring concert.

Calamity Jane starred Emily MacGillivray in the title role, Michael Doyle as Wild Bill Hickok, and Louise McCahery as Katie Brown.

Lt Danny Gilmartin was played by Allan McLaren, with Chris McLaren starring as Francis Fryer and David McMaster as Henry Miller.

The theatre group will now begin preparing for their next major production.

Cabaret concert Mad About Musicals will be staged in the town on April 21 and 22, 2023.
