A Helensburgh actor has been nominated for a top award for his West End performance – but time is running out to vote for him.

Reuben Joseph, 26, started a year-long run as Alexander Hamilton at London’s Victoria Palace Theatre in June.

The former Hermitage Academy pupil has now been nominated for Best Takeover Performance at the annual WhatsOnStage (WOS) Awards.

Reuben spoke to the Advertiser last year about his first few months in the role, saying he was “doing it for everyone back home”.

He faces competition from Lauren Byrne (Matilda the Musical), Joel Harper-Jackson (Cock), Lucie Jones (Wicked), Ben Joyce (Back to the Future: The Musical), and fellow Scot Erin Caldwell (Heathers: The Musical).

Previous winners of the award include performers such as Alfie Boe (Les Misérables, 2012), Carrie Hope Fletcher (Les Misérables, 2014), and Kerry Ellis (Wicked, 2015).

Reuben’s show, Hamilton, is also nominated in the Best West End Show, where its up against Back to the Future, Les Misérables, SIX, The Phantom of the Opera, and Wicked.

Voting for the WOS Awards closes on Tuesday, January 10 – with the winners being announced at a ceremony at the Prince of Wales Theatre on Sunday, February 12.
