A Helensburgh drama group’s musical cabaret was a shining success as locals enjoyed performances from star studded musicals.

Helensburgh Savoy Theatre Group performed their Mad About Musicals show for two sold out nights across April 28 and 29 at the Victoria Halls.

Members treated audiences to songs they wouldn’t usually showcase in their productions with performances of iconic musicals like Les Misérables and Hamilton and fan-favourites from Disney musicals.

Committee member Euan Forrest said: “This year’s show was themed around songs from musicals that we as an amateur club are unlikely to ever be able to stage for various reasons.

“As such, the programme featured numbers from animated Disney classics, huge international hit musicals like Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables, as well as much more modern hits such as Hamilton, Come From Away and Six.

“It was great for the club to get back to the full song-and-dance format last used in 2019, after the tail end of Covid restrictions impacting on rehearsals meant that 2022's production was a more stripped-back concert.

“A huge thank you as always goes to all the volunteers that help out backstage, front of house and behind our bar, without whom our productions would be impossible and of course our loyal audiences.”

In April the group announced that they were preparing for their main show of the year – production of Sunshine on Leith set to be shown at the Victoria Halls from November 8 to 11.
