RHU Amateurs kicked off their pre-season friendly programme in impressive fashion on Saturday with a 3-0 win over Fort William at Hermitage Academy.

The visitors, formerly of the Highland League but now playing their competitive football in the North Caledonian FA, were expected to present a tough test for the Rhu squad – but two goals from Jordan Wyllie and one by Jamie Paterson capped a fine start to their 2023-24 preparations for Gordon Brodie’s Caledonian League squad.

Meanwhile, Rhu’s backroom preparations for the new campaign have received a further boost this week with the appointment of Liam Conroy as the Caledonian League squad’s new player-coach.

A club spokesperson said: “Liam brings a wealth of experience not only on the park but also off the park and will be crucial to what we are trying to build at the club.”

This Saturday, July 15, Rhu make the short journey east to compete in West Dumbarton AFC’s summer tournament on Dumbarton Common – before another away trip on Wednesday, July 19 to take on Vale of Leven Juniors at Millburn Park (KO 7.15pm).
