A Helensburgh playwright admits she is thrilled to be taking her hit show back to the Edinburgh Fringe for a second year.

Molly Keating showcased her writing skill after ‘Lost and Found’ was performed for four days at last year’s festival.

Now the show, created by the former Lomond School pupil, is back for almost an entire month, and also stars two former Hermitage Academy pupils.

Megan Gall and Annie Ferguson will reprise their roles in the performance, but the rest of the cast has changed ahead of the show’s return to the capital.

Molly says she was thrilled to find out that her show was returning to the Fringe after securing funding.

She said: “We had a three-day run last year and although it was on a much smaller scale, it went down really well and we had a four star review which was amazing.

“We had lots of positive feedback from other actors as well, who all said we should try to bring it back this year.

“We had an offer from a theatre company called The Counterminers, who offered to take on the show and fund us for this year.

“It is a full run with a show every other day, which is amazing, but also quite daunting at the same time.”

‘Lost and Found’ follows Edinburgh University student Maeve as she takes her two English flatmates on a night out in Glasgow.

The collision of Maeve’s home and university lives, mixed with a few too many shots, makes for a fast-paced comedy packed with Glaswegian humour.

Molly reveals that a place on a national course has allowed her to adapt and improve the play for its second run in Edinburgh.

She explained: “Megan and Annie, who are from Cardross and Kilcreggan, are the only two cast members to come back for the second run, with everyone else being completely new.

“Over the past year I have been involved with a national youth theatre programme for young playwrights that I was lucky enough to get a scholarship for.

“This has allowed me to really evolve the script from last year, so it is not going to be exactly the same show as before.

“It’s grittier and there’s much more of an emotive subtext to the comedy rather than it just being a funny story.”

Molly believes there is more pressure on the cast this year, but hopes it will earn positive reviews and even a shot at transferring to London.

She added: “It’s more daunting as we have to sell so many more tickets, but I think the show will stand on its own and hopefully gain some momentum.

“We’re feeling a lot more confident this year, and are super excited to get the right people in the door.

“I would love to do something with ‘Lost and Found’ after the Fringe this year. I have just graduated from Edinburgh University so the dream would be to see the play transferred to London.”

‘Lost and Found’ will play at The Caves on every alternating day from August 4 to 27. Tickets cost £10 for adults and £8 for concessions and can be bought at www.tickets.edfringe.com/whats-on/lost-and-found.
