DETAILS of Rhu Amateurs’ opening fixtures of the 2023-24 Caledonian League campaign have been revealed as Gordon Brodie’s squad bring their pre-season programme to a climax.

Rhu will begin their league campaign on Saturday, August 12, at home to one of the league’s new teams – Riverside AFC of Stirling.

A run of home fixtures to start the season will then see Brodie’s squad play host to Westerlands on Wednesday, August 16 and to Stirling University on Saturday, August 19, before a trip to Garscube to face Glasgow University on Wednesday, August 23.

The fixture list for the first few weeks of the new campaign was announced as Rhu chalked up a 5-2 win over Port Glasgow in their latest pre-season friendly on Saturday, with Luke Evans scoring all five goals and putting in a fine individual display which was the highlight of a great team performance.

Rhu’s final pre-season fixture, though, was the toughest of the lot, with Premier League Dumbarton Accies visiting Ardenconnel on Wednesday night with Rhu losing 2-3.

It was a good pre-season workout for both sides evening at Ardenconnel.

Goal scorers for Rhu were Danny Johns and Jamie Paterson.

The Caley boys have a few days rest before returning to training on Tuesday, August 8 in preparation for the league opener on Saturday, August 12.

Meanwhile, Rhu Colts were also set to round off their pre-season preparations on Wednesday evening with a friendly away to Cardross – again off the back of a good win on Saturday, with two goals from Dale Walker and one apiece from Young and Mullender completing a 4-0 victory over Bishopton.

Rhu’s Glasgow Colleges FA season gets under way this Saturday, August 5, at home to Rosepark United, with a 10am kick-off.
