Details of a popular 10K series taking place in Helensburgh have been released as it prepares to return for 2024.

Next year’s Babcock 10K Series will take place in the town on Thursday, May 30 at 7.30pm.

The last of the three runs in the series, the Shettleston race will he held on Sunday, May 12 at 10am and the Dumbarton run will come to the town on May 23 at 7.30pm.

Entry has now opened and an ‘Early Bird Christmas Offer’, which provides a £5 discount, will be available for the first 500 runners who sign up before Sunday, December 31.

A spokesperson for the series said: “Babcock 10k Series Chairman Kevin Johnson was delighted at this year’s series, which produced a course and series record for Dundee’s talented teenager, Natasha Phillips, at Shettleston, where she stopped the clock in 32 minutes and 57 seconds.

“This was the fastest time by an under-20 UK athlete in over-20 years.

“Gateshead’s Calum Johnson also set new figures for Shettleston in taking the men’s course record down to 29 mins and 45 seconds for the first sub-30-minute clocking on Glasgow Green.

“Kenny Douglas, managing director of Babcock at HMNB Clyde, highlighted that the Babcock 10K Series motivated employees, business partners and the local community to take to the streets and run – whether it was for personal fitness, recreation or more serious competition.”

Commemorative medals will be given to every finisher in each race and series entrants will receive a distinctive long-sleeved top for signing up for three races.

A different item of commemorative merchandise will be given to every finisher, at each race, provided by Start Fitness who continue as the event’s ‘Running Retail Partner’ and are providing more than £6,000 in cash and for the winners.

Added to the Shettleston run this year, the 2K Babcock Family Fun Run will also be part of the 2024 series.

Babcock have been involved in the 10K Series since 2017 when they took over from Polaroid who had sponsored the series since 1983.

The Community Advertiser series will continue their sponsorship of the first Local Male and Female prizes at each race.
