A musician who appeared in the soundtrack of a Hollywood movie is coming to Helensburgh to deliver an exclusive music class this weekend.

Gaelic music star Kathleen MacInnes, whose voice was featured in Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, will share her knowledge during an event at Helensburgh Baptist Church Hall on Sunday, March 10 from 2pm to 4pm.

The Gaelic song workshop will provide a unique opportunity for locals to learn how to sing in Gaelic, or improve their existing skills, through group activities.

It's being organised by talented traditional musician and composer Eilidh Steel, from Helensburgh.

Eilidh said: “Kathleen MacInnes is one of the biggest names in Gaelic music.

“This workshop is an absolutely amazing opportunity to learn from the best and is not to be missed!”

Originally from South Uist and based in Glasgow, Kathleen regularly appears on TV and radio and featured in Ridley Scott's blockbuster Robin Hood as well as the long running music series Transatlantic Sessions.

In addition to touring across the UK and Europe, Eilidh oversees monthly trad music sessions in the Commodore Hotel in Helensburgh.

She has received support from the Maoin nan Ealan Gàidhlig fund to run the workshop.

Eilidh added: “Huge thanks to Creative Scotland, Bòrd na Gàidhlig and Fèisean nan Gàidheal for making running this workshop possible, and also to Helensburgh Baptist Church for kindly providing the venue.”

The workshop is pay as you can and there is no need to book beforehand.

While the workshop is open to all ages, under 16s must be accompanied by a guardian.

No prior knowledge of Scottish Gaelic is needed and people with all levels of musical knowledge are welcome.

The workshop will take place on the ground floor where there is a ramp into the building (no stairs) and the venue has a disabled toilet.
