A group which helps elderly residents in Helensburgh has issued an urgent plea for “helping hands.”

The Abbeyfield Helensburgh Society provides sheltered accommodation for older members of the community and supports individuals to live independently in their own apartments.

Abbeyfield runs Barclay-Smith House in West King Street, which currently offers nine private apartments.

The group carries out important work in the community and is in need of volunteers to allow them to keep running.

House manager Sue Perks said: “Like many charities, we have struggled to recruit committee members to help keep our society going.

“With the recent announcement of our chairs’ resignation, we are now in need of helping hands.

“If you can only offer a couple of hours a month your contribution will be extremely welcome.

“No matter what your skill set is, we can use your expertise.”

The Abbeyfield Helensburgh Society has been a longstanding part of the community as it was established in the 1960s.
