HELENSBURGH Community Council is planning to organise a ‘clubs and societies’ fair in the town to showcase the wide range of organisations open to people living in the area.
The idea for the event was put forward by two members of Helensburgh Youth Forum, Imogen McLeod and Rosie Sumsion, at HCC’s monthly meeting at the Victoria Halls – though the event, if and when it happens, won’t be solely aimed at young people.
Both girls said they were keen to find out more about opportunities for young people which didn’t involve sport on a semi-professional level or a commitment to attend an organisation’s meetings evern single week.
Community councillor Nigel Millar said: “There’s been a debate for years in the community council and elsewhere about what’s available for young people in Helensburgh. Some say there’s plenty, others say not enough.”
The first step for any organisation interested in taking part in such an event is to contact HCC convener Norman Muir (convener@helensburghcommunitycouncil.co.uk).
If there’s enough interest a date and venue for the event will be announced in due course.
