FLY-TIPPING is still a problem at a known hot-spot in Arrochar - despite attempts to block vehicle access to the site.

The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park Authority says access to the former MoD torpedo range on the west shore of Loch Long was forced in late March despite barriers being put up preventing vehicle access.

Items dumped at the site include a burned-out car, stripped metal and domestic, building and commercial waste.

Stuart Mearns, Head of Planning and Rural Development, said: “Our enforcement action required the owners to block access – which has already had to be repaired once after access was forced in late March – remove the fly-tipping and tidy up some of the more visible rubble on site.

"While the derelict buildings on the site remain very visible, the securing of the site and the tidy up are a positive step.

"What we don’t want to see now is the site deteriorating again due to fly-tipping so we are reminding members of the public that fly-tipping is an offence and that any incidents should be reported to Argyll and Bute Council online or by calling 01546 605514 so it can be quickly cleaned up.”

Planning permission was granted in 2013 for a hotel resort development at the site, but the permission lapsed last summer with no work having taken place.
