HELENSBURGH residents are being invited to a public consultation meeting this Saturday over the possible community purchase of a woodland area in the town.

The Helensburgh Community Woodlands Group (HCWG) submitted an application to register a community interest in the land at Cumberland Avenue which has been approved by the Scottish Government.

This is the first step in the process of the community buying out the land. The group now intend to bring local people together to plan how to turn the neglected land into a real environmental asset for everyone's benefit.

The public are invited along to a consultation meeting on Saturday, May 20 from 3-5pm in the Lomond School Sports Hall, Rhu Road Higher.

In particular, the group is seeking the public's views on the following questions:

What kind of trees and shrubs should be planted and where?

Where should footpaths be provided?

Should the mounds left from earlier felling be retained or removed?

Should a central open space open space be created?

Are boundary fences needed?

How can dogs best be managed?

The group intends to use all the comments gathered at the event to prepare and publish a detailed management plan for the Cumberland Avenue land.
