CELEBRATED broadcaster Hazel Irvine added some star quality to Cardross Primary’s Gala Day recently when she returned to her former school as a special guest.

BBC sports presenter Ms Irvine, whose parents still live locally, opened the event and then stayed for the afternoon’s Wild West-themed festivities.

The bad weather didn’t dampen the spirits of those who attended and all planned activities went ahead, both inside and outside.

The event was organised by the Parent Council (CPSA), under the leadership of chairwoman Mrs Kirsty Caldow, and included mainstage demonstrations from local dance schools and line dancers, a Glasgow Gunslingers demonstration, stalls, and information stands for local community groups.

On top of that revellers enjoyed inflatables, sumo suits, archery, beat the goalie, tombola and the highly-popular soak a teacher.

There was also a dog show and fancy dress parade which gave everyone the chance to show off their best Wild-West outfits.

Hundreds of people from the local community, pupils and their families, past and present and friends and relations enjoyed the day.

Head teacher, Elspeth Davis, said: “We were delighted that former pupil, Hazel Irvine, joined us to open the event and stayed for the afternoon to join in with the fun.

“It’s become an event that everyone really looks forward to; there’s always something for everyone and the huge amount of work and effort that goes into making it so well organised and such a success is really valued by all of us at the school.

“We want to thank everyone for their support and enjoyment of the day.”
