A HELENSBURGH woman determined to keep the memory of her late husband alive has refused to let bad weather stop her from raising money.

Kelly Andrews and a group of family and friends had planned to tackle the Three Peaks Challenge on June 10 until bad weather, and forecast high winds, got in their way.

But that didn’t stop Kelly and friends from taking on a walk when the weather was better.

Kelly lost her husband Gary to lung cancer in 2013 and is in the process of setting up a charitable trust in his memory to raise awareness and help local people with financial aid.

While the trust is in the process of being set up and finalised, Kelly and her family and friends have been fundraising to ensure there is money in the pot as soon as the Trust is up and running.

Kelly said: “I had to cancel my event which was disappointing as we were looking forward to tackling the mountains.

“We still aim to climb during the summer, but it did not stop us doing a walk on the Sunday when the weather was expected to be better.

“We went ahead and did part of the John Muir Way Helensburgh from to Balloch then back to Helensburgh.”

Kelly was joined by seven others on the walk, including her son Joshua, his friend Conner and a dog named Boo. The group walked 17 miles in about five hours and collected donations of £100 from customers at Humbles Cafe, where Kelly works, which will be added to the Gary Andrews Trust. The trustees have been selected and have agreed to help Kelly with the trust and she hopes everything will be finalised and running soon.

Kelly said: “I would like to thank my friends for coming along and taking part with me and my son and thanks for all the donations, I very much appreciated it.

“It (the trust) will be finalised soon and money will be available to help or assist in end of life wishes.”
