THE fate of Cove Sailing Club's plans to build a new and larger clubhouse will be decided later this month.

But before then, objectors to the club's planning bid will lay out their concerns at a public exhibition in the village.

The Cove Seafront Preservation Group has been set up by a group of residents concerned at the impact they say the proposed new building will have on the setting of nearby homes.

Argyll and Bute Council's planning, protective services and licensing committee will hold a hearing at Cove Burgh Hall on Wednesday, November 29 at 10.30am, when the club, supporters and objectors will be able to state their cases in detail.

Ahead of that hearing, however, the preservation group will hold an event this weekend – also at the Burgh Hall – to explain to people in the area why they think the planning application should be turned down, against the advice of the council's planning officials.

The display, on Sunday, November 19 from 10.30am to 1.30pm, will show the area as it currently appears, along with possible alternatives and links to the documents available on the council's website.

Members of the group will also be on hand to chat to visitors.

Chairman of the group, Ken Bradshaw, said: “We have serious concerns that this proposed development will irreversibly and negatively impact the current open aspects enjoyed by all members of our communities, as well as altering the character of the village from the water.”

As this article was published, 68 comments from members of the public on the proposal had been published on the council's website – 32 objections and 36 expressions of support.
