VOLUNTEERS in Helensburgh plan to restart weeding in the town centre this weekend - and they're looking for members of the public to help.

A team of volunteers, led by members of Helensburgh Community Council (HCC), held several clean-up sessions in the summer, focussing on the flower beds in Colquhoun Square - and received £2,500 from Argyll and Bute Council in September to help them in their work.

HCC member John Tacchi said: "After the magnificent effort earlier the year in clearing the weeds we would like to start again.

"We stopped because of the weather. The good news is we have been able to find some money – not all we might need, but enough to give heart and start again.

"We also should have a planting plan for low maintenance beds by the end of this month.

"The other good news is that the council have trimmed the box hedges."

Mr Tacchi and his colleagues will be back in Colquhoun Square this Saturday, November 17, between 9am and 11am – weather permitting – and are keen for other local residents to lend a helping hand by clearing three beds ready for planting and mulching.

Mr Tacchi added: "I do hope you can come along and bring a friend as well as gloves, forks, rakes and secateurs."
