Frederick Loftus pled guilty by letter to stealing the booze from the store on Cardross Road in February this year.

Dumbarton Sheriff Court heard last Tuesday how the Drumchapel man calmly walked into the store at 10am on February 6 this year, grabbing a trolley and wheeling it into the drink aisle.

There he loaded the trolley with four bottles of vodka, two of brandy and two of whisky before pushing it through an unmanned checkout aisle without paying.

Loftus made off with £162.90 worth of spirits before a member of staff noticed the incident on CCTV.

Police were called and confirmed the incident after viewing the security tape footage, identifying the crook as Loftus.

Sheriff Colin McKay adjourned the trial for the OAP's personal appearance. The case will next be heard on September 16.
