Emergency services were called to the scene on the east of the loch on Friday evening after reports a man had gone into the water.

Specialist divers recovered a body on Saturday afternoon after searching all morning.

Police frogmen discovered the body near Rowardennan pier at around 1.40pm.

The victim was named on Tuesday as Robert McKeown, believed to be an experienced angler from the Drumchapel area.

Police are now trying to trace his next of kin.

Mr McKeown, who was known to friends as Bob, lived alone at his Cloan Avenue home and police have now appealed for any family members, or anyone who has information on his next of kin, to come forward.

Police Sergeant Donald Konkol said: “Following this tragic incident, we have so far been unable to trace the next of kin of Robert McKeown. Anyone who has information that can assist should contact police on 101.” The Loch Lomond Rescue Boat (LLRB), the Scottish Fire and Rescue, HMS Gannet, HM Coastguard, Police Scotland and the Scottish Ambulance all aided the police in the search for Mr McKeown.

A spokesman for the LLRB said: “Crew and Committee send our condolence to the family and friends at this sad time.” The tragedy happened around 20 miles from the Great Scottish Swim, which took place on the loch at Balloch on Saturday morning in which thousands of swimmers took part in the record breaking event.
