The session, based at Centre 81, is open to everyone, and aims at providing parents and guardians the opportunity to enjoy coffee and cake from the cafe whilst for only £1 the kids can enjoy soft play, lego, toys, games, creative arts, cartoons and - on the last Thursday of the month - a bouncy castle.

Every week there will be a 15-minute activity provided by Mary Ann Slee who works at Centre 81 on the Community Job Scotland Scheme.

Mary Ann, aged 17, came through Route 81 Youth Project as a young person, signing up as a Junior Volunteer. She gained skills in a variety of areas within Route 81 and Centre 81 and when a vacancy came up within the Centre she applied and was successful.

Mary Ann has decided she would like to work with younger children and has worked hard to create the new initiative ‘Cafe n’ Play’.

She told the Advertiser: “I have been learning how to promote the event by making posters and developing my organisational skills. I have had to create a system which has involved programme planning, risk assessments and evaluations.

“The first ‘Cafe n’ Play’ has now taken place and I felt at ease because I realised this is what I want to do with my life - work with children!

“I felt proud of myself at the end as I knew I had used my initiative and have been really motivated to make this happen.” Cafe and play takes place every Thursday from 1-2.30pm.
