The event – run in conjunction with Your Radio and URTV – takes place on Thursday, April 30 at 7.30pm in The Tower Digital Arts Centre, Sinclair Street.

All five candidates standing for the Argyll and Bute seat have been invited to participate in the debate, which will be chaired by journalist and broadcaster Ruth Wishart.

The candidates include: Alan Reid, of the Liberal Democrats; Brendan O’Hara, of the SNP; Mary Galbraith, of Labour; Alastair Redman, of the Conservative and Unionists; and Caroline Santos, of UKIP.

Henry Ainslie, editor of the Advertiser, said: “I’m tremendously excited to be working with URTV on this project, which promises to provide the perfect platform for the community to engage with politics in person, in print, online, and over the airwaves.

“Argyll and Bute promises to be one of the most hotly contested seats in the 2015 general election, and that’s why it’s so important to bring each of the candidates to Helensburgh so members of the community can put their questions to them directly.

“We are lucky too to be given access to The Tower, which will provide the ideal venue for this fantastic event so close to the general election. I hope as many people as possible can attend.” Brian Keating said The Tower is ideally placed to host the event due to its capacity for fibre broadband link-up, which will enable live streaming of the event.

He added: “Streaming the event live will be a first and working with the Advertiser will also be a first for URTV and so it’s an exciting project.

“We have around 300 tickets available and this is another event where the community will be able to benefit from the modern technology of The Tower, with its fibre links. The event will be a precursor for further events we can host in the future such as public meetings and other live streaming events.” Readers have been invited to submit questions ahead of the event by emailing editorial@helensburghadvertiser.co.uk, along with your contact details.

A limited number of questions will also be taken from the floor on the night.

The Tower will open its doors at 7pm for the event at 7.30pm on Thursday, April 30.

The hustings will also be broadcast and live updates will be made available through the Advertiser’s website.
