Ruth Richards, spokeswoman for the group, said they were preparing for the autumn and winter season.

She said they were also looking for new members.

She told the Advertiser: “We took a bit of a break for the summer. There was some talk we would be singing at the opening of the submarine museum.

“This was our first week back, we’re also looking for some new members. The only thing is that you have to have a military connection – so be a wife, girlfriend, or family member of serving or retired member of the armed forces.” The group train at the Drumfork Club on Mondays at 6.30pm.

Money raised at a quiz tonight will go towards subsidising the creche on Monday nights so the choir can rehearse and to help with transport costs for concerts.

Ms Richards said the group had around 30 regular members, but 60 women in the local community were involved with the choir.

Anyone interested can email: wosmilitarywiveschoir@hotmail.com.

The quiz will be held in the Logie Baird this evening from 7pm.

Tickets are available at the bar for £3.
