The Wee Fest in the West, which takes place on May 16 and 17 at Helensburgh Sailing Club, will be the eight annual event.

Following last year’s record breaking event, Ale Fest Grand Poobah, Gordon Andrew, has announced his intention to make this year’s event even better.

He told Advertiser Food and Drink: “We’ve had a really good run at the festival over the years, but now we want to help even more people to have a fantastic time and raise even more for local good causes.

“What we really need to help us do this are sponsors for our casks of ales. We have a number of local businesses on board already but with 50 casks this year there is plenty of opportunity for getting your name behind what is undoubtedly one of the best attended events in the area.

“For every one pound of sponsorship we raise, we add our (and our friends’) hard work, multiply it by the thirst of the people of Helensburgh (and beyond) into about seven pounds to go to good causes. We think that’s a phenomenal return on your investment.” As with previous years, the Round Table will donate all the profits from the festival to local charities and good causes. Last year it raised around £10,000 – bringing the total raised to almost £50,000 since the festival started.

Causes supported have included local youth groups such as Scouts and Boys Brigade, Parklands and Hermitage Primary Schools, the Hermitage Park playground refurbishment, as well as individuals and families and events at sheltered accommodation in the town.

This year The Wee Fest in the West will have a menu of 50 different ales from 23 independent Scottish breweries, a huge range of ciders, wine, BBQ with food supplied by Helensburgh’s Callaghans butchers and all accompanied by music from the brilliant local bands Old Station and Crowded Croft.
