AT the February HCC meeting, a member of the public raised the current dissatisfaction with the public transport system serving the town, particularly the rail network.

After discussion it was agreed that the HCC would sponsor a transport users group meeting to examine the issue and see if there was some way that a group approach to complaints and suggestions of improvement could be effective.

The meeting was held on Monday night and will be reported in the next issue of the Advertiser.

The recent community beach clean was extremely successful and many thanks to all who turned up. It is intended to become a routine event and make the town as attractive as possible. The next clean is scheduled for Saturday 22 April so make a note in your diaries and keep an eye out for further details.

On the subject of litter, it would greatly help our image with an eye to visitors and tourists to the town if premises and householders in the town centre were to adopt the continental system of taking stewardship of their street frontages.

Elsewhere, the HCC is in negotiation with the authorities to find a solution to the moss and mildew growing on the benches in Colquhoun Square.

The solution under discussion is a power wash clean followed by application of a suitable preservative.

Posters: Fly-posting is unsightly and strictly speaking against the law. The HCC exercises stewardship of the two town centre noticeboards and details of who to contact are on each board. Please use them to enhance the publicity of your occasion.

Helensburgh Community Council: It is a statement of the obvious but the HCC is your community council and we are responsible by statute to ascertain, co-ordinate and express community views. We meet monthly and details are publicised. You, the community are encouraged to attend and participate in these meetings, which may achieve more purpose than a posting on social media.
