I arrived in Helensburgh on the 29th November 2012 for a six months visit. Unfortunately due to family illness, I have to return home after only 3 months.

During my stay I have been treated to the most warmest and friendliest of people I have ever met in the world. The outstanding kindness of the people of Helensburgh, the wee shops, Costas, Craigard Tearoom, Tescos, The Co-Op, Greggs and Semi-Chem....the list goes no. The view of the river Clyde and I couldn't believe the view at night across the way. Everywhere I went I received the most respect from good natured people. What a wonderful town. I am sure a lot of people have 'use to it' syndrome which usually comes with any home town, but believe me, Helensburgh is a terrific place which, I think, should be promoted as 'The Gateway To The Highlands'.

I enjoyed the wee pubs, cafes, shops and restaurants. Even travelling on the Churchill circular was enjoyable. The only thing that perhaps needs attention are the road repairs and some foot paths. I am not complaining as I understand the works are at the weathers disposal, but they do need addressing as I feel the town has a rich standard of pride for both residence and visitors alike.

Be proud Helensburgh. You have given me everlasting memories of a place I want to return to. Helensburgh is a town, I feel, that can and should be promoted for the absolute gem that it is.

RETURN ME TO SCOTLAND My heart it is breaking, my eyes seldom dry I can hardly stand this sad word goodbye For I must leave this land I adore And return to my home land on a far-a-way shore For ne'er have I seen such grandeur before me Your highlands, your Glens, your Lochs, I did see My hearts filled with love and such sweet devotion I know deep in side, this land is for me The kindness of people, their good nature way Their laughter and friendship, with me, ne'er stray For ne'er in the world have I meet such a race Of what you get, truth, face to face My heart is so sad, I cannot explain The ache I feel, a dull nagging pain And I will pray to my sweet God above Return me to Scotland, the land that I love.
