Local Army Cadets travelled to York last weekend to represent Scotland in the Army Cadet Force National Girls Hockey Championships finals.

Taking part against teams from England and Northern Ireland, girls from the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Army Cadets won their first game against the South East 4-0 before losing 3-0 to to North East.

But they bounced back with a 1-0 win against the South West to secure second place in Pool A and take a place in the semi-finals for the first time since 1992.

The team then took on Northern Ireland and suffered a 5-0 defeat against the eventual winners to finish joint third overall.

That is a big achievement and testament to the commitment and dedication of the support staff for helping make this happen.

Army Cadets offer a range of sporting activities alongside their military themed activities with national competitions in hockey, rugby, football, swimming and cross;country.
