Lomond School student Ryan Morrison won a gold medal for Scotland at the Home International Rowing Regatta at Cardiff Bay.

Morrison competed in the senior men’s heavyweight quad along with Ben Parsonage, Matthew Mole and Jack Burns.

Morrison, who rows for Glasgow Schools Rowing Club, was one of five athletes from the club who won medals in the competition, an annual event between the four home nations – Scotland, England, Wales and Ireland.

Scotland Rowing Team’s senior women won back the title they had last captured in 2014 whilst the men missed out on the double by the narrowest of margins in the final race at the prestigious regatta.

Morrison and his teammates crossed the line in 4:50.6, beating Ireland who finished with a time of 4:52.1, narrowly ahead of Wales who came in at 4:52.3 with England finishing in fourth with 5:00.6.

Despite their win, they were unable to aid the senior men to the overall trophy for the event, with the England senior’s men narrowly winning the event ahead of Scotland.
