Craighelen's Senior Club Championships are now underway , with the first round matches in the mixed doubles producing some exciting and close results.

Ashley Bolton and Kurt Hart played their long match with Chris Bowman and Anna Scullion, over two sessions, with Ashley and Kurt winning 6-4, 6-7, 7-5.

In other first round encounters, there were wins for Fiona McPherson and John Middleton over Glenys and Russell Graves, and for Lesley and Jim McGowan over Jackie Morris and Lewis Graham.

Eileen Drummond and Sandy Allan beat Catherine and Harry Gould in the first round, then had a close match against mother and son combination, Adam and Sandra Juster, in which the Justers won 7-5, 6-4.

In the handicap mixed doubles, where partners are drawn for and handicaps awarded, there were again some thrilling matches.

Sue Black and Russell Graves beat Lorna Hunter and Gerry Black 2-6, 6-1, 6-2, while Fiona McPherson and Rob Colston had to work very hard for their win against Gwen Burbidge and Tam Morris, who received plus 15, each game; the score was 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

In the ladies' doubles event, Jackie Morris and Sandra Juster beat Sarah Colman and Anna Scullion 6-4, 6-3; other winners were Susan Bell and Sue Black over Esme McRae and Beryl Middleton, and Ashley Bolton and April Robertson over Catherine Gould and Lorna Hunter.

In a first round gents' doubles match, Adam Juster and Harry Gould beat Russell Graves and Rob Colston 6-0, 6-4.

The championship finals will be played on Saturday, September 3.
