YOUNG endurance athletes from Helensburgh Athletics Club started the cross-country season at the West District Relays in Kilmacolm.
The contest saw teams of three athletes (one from each age category) compete in a relay format against hundreds of the other top endurance athletes from across the region.
In near perfect weather and on a track which was firm underfoot, the first race of the day was the junior female event which saw three teams from Helensburgh competing.
The first Helensburgh team back was the team of Jenny Scott, Amirah Hassan and Jessica Noble who finished in 43rd position overall.
In the individual female event standings, Jenny Scott was the highest placed in the under 13 category finishing in 30th place. In the under 15 category Katie Flett was first home in 67th place while in the under 17s Jessica Noble finished in an excellent 13th position.
In the junior male event the team of Cameron Picken, Joshua Bain and Finn Burden finished in 57th place while in the individual standings Matthew Cameron was the highest placed U13 runner, finishing in 63rd, with Joshua Bain achieving a 62nd place finish in the under 15 category.
