After a bright start Rhu Amateurs had a disappointing afternoon last Saturday as they were held to a 1-1 draw away to lowly Weir Recreation.

From the kick off the visitors strung together a host of passes, and the ball finally reached David Holburn who fired the ball high in to the roof of the net.

For the next 20 minutes the away side were on top. Rhu’s Adam McCulloch went close after he was put through on goal, but a brave save by the home goalkeeper kept him out.

Weirs had not been in the game up to this point, but with their first chance they were level.

A long ball caught the Rhu defence out and an early pass inside found the Weirs number nine and he made no mistake.

Weirs got a lift from their equaliser and gradually played their way in to the game in the second half.

Rhu didn’t reach the heights they had in the first half but neither side could find the winner.

Rhu are away to Premier League Cumbernauld Colts in the Challenge Cup this Saturday, with a 1pm kick off.
