Cardross Tennis Club has been back in action over recent weeks and members have kicked off the season with a strong set of results.

The Ladies’ second team took to the courts at Westerton on April 17 in their opening fixture.

Jill Rooney and Janet Hogg met their match at first couple but they came through a close contest.

Three very long sets saw them playing until just before the lights went out at 10pm. Eventually the Cardross pair prevailed with a 7-6, 7-6, 4-6 win.

Mhairi Stevenson and Rona Foster endured long drawn out rallies against very consistent opponents.

After a shaky start they managed to win the second set but couldn’t quite clinch the third, eventually losing 1-2.

Catherine Court and Mia Rooney took on Westerton’s third couple.

After losing out in the first set they found their rhythm and quickly swept aside their opponents in the second and third sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-0.

This gave Cardross an overall win of 5-4 to start the 2017 season.

Cardross Ladies’ newly formed third team started the season with a decisive win against a more experienced Bishopton team on Sunday, April 23.

Gwen Irving and Tracy Glen won convincingly in the first two sets 6-3, 6-0, but had to fight harder to win 7-5 in the last set when the opposition seemed determined not to draw a blank.

Sara Sullivan, and new member Lisa Fowler, made steady work of beating their opponents and won 6-1, 6-4, 6-2.

Elaine Clancy and newcomer Danielle Gordon made sure the team walked off court with a thumping 9-0 win.

They had a confident 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 victory. It was a strong showing from Cardross given that none of the pairings had played before in league matches.

Cardross Ladies’ first team’s first match was away to Virgin Active Hamilton on Monday, April 24.

Gillian Branch and Caroline McDaid came through 6-4 in the first set and carried the momentum into the second and third sets with some strong serving by Caroline and good net play by Gillian seeing them through 6-0, 6-2.

Carolyn Turk and Karen Muir played a strong first two sets to take them 6-1 6-3.

However, VA Hamilton took the third set 6-7.

Lorna Brown and Katie Mitchell took some time to settle, losing the first set 6-3. But they raced through the next two sets winning 6-0 6-2.
