Wheelchair tennis star Gordon Reid says he is determined to end 2017 on a high after an inconsistent season.

The Helensburgh ace has claimed three Grand Slam doubles titles, winning at the Australian Open, Wimbledon and last month’s US Open.

But the world number four has been unable to replicate his singles success from 2016, when he won in Australia, SW19 and the Rio Olympics.

Reid has failed to reach a Grand Slam singles final in 2017, but after taking time away from the court following the US Open, he is out to finish with a flourish at next month’s Wheelchair Doubles Masters in the Netherlands and the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters, which takes place on British soil.

He said: “I’ve had a mixed year, with a few ups and downs and I’ve had a bit of a break since the US Open and I’ve started back again this week. So I’m feeling refreshed and I’m looking forward to getting back to competing.”

Reid will partner Alfie Hewett at the Doubles Masters in Bemmel in the Netherlands as the duo bid to add another major title to their Grand Slam victories at Wimbledon and the US Open.

The Burgh ace saw his British number one ranking go to Hewett after last month’s US Open. But after a short break Reid is gearing up for next month’s ITF 1 Series Bath Indoor before the year-end Masters events in quick succession.

With both Reid and Hewett in the world’s top four in the men’s singles rankings, they are also on course to qualify for the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters, which takes place for the first time at Loughborough University Tennis Centre this year, from November 29 to December 3

He added: “The NEC Masters has been a big focus for the British players, especially with it being in the UK. We’re going to a new venue this year and hopefully we’ll get the same support in Loughborough that we’ve had in London.”
