CRAIGHELEN’S ladies’ third team have made a flying start to the new season, with two excellent wins.
Their first victory was against Thorn Park 5, with all three couples winning in straight sets – Anne Barrie and Lorna Hunter won 6-1, 6-1 6- 1, Fiona Thomson and Dari Young triumphed 6-2, 6-4, 7-6, and Gwen Burbidge and Eilidh Colman overcame their opponents 6-2, 6-2, 6-1.
The same team then took on Woodend 6 and won by six sets to three – Anne and Lorna lost 6-3, 5-7, 4-6, Fiona and Dari won 6-4, 5-7, 7-5, and Eilidh and Gwen won in fine style 6-4, 6-2, 6-1.
The team was unable to keep their winning run going against Drumchapel – Anne and Lorna had a good 6-3, 6-2, 6-1 win, but Fiona and Dari lost 2-6, 2-6, 2-6, and Gwen and Anne Doig were very unlucky to lose a really close match 1-6, 6-7, 5-7.
The ladies’ second team lost their first match to a strong Uplawmoor team. Lesley McGowan and Lesley Reeve lost 1-6, 4-6, 1-6, and Doreen Flatman and Barbara McCall lost 0-6, 6-3, 3-6, while Catherine Gould and Fiona Macpherson lost 2-6, 2-6, 2-6.
In the 55 knockout event, Craighelen’s ladies beat Bearsden by a four-game margin. Sandra Juster and Sue Black won 6-1, 6-1, and Catherine Gould and Louise Robertson lost 3-6, 1-6. In the next round the team lost 2-0 to Clarkston.
In the men’s 55 knockout event, Craighelen beat Rutherglen by five games. David Thorpe and Gerry Black lost 3-6, 1-6, and Jim McGowan and Tam Morris won 6-2, 6-0.
In the next round the team received a walkover from David Lloyd Hamilton , but they lost out in the following round 2-0 to Hamilton.
