Craighelen’s ladies first team enjoyed a crushing 9-0 win against Bishopton.

The three pairs of Sue Black and Susan Bell, Sandra Juster and Jackie Morris, and Anna Scullion and Sarah Colman all played some fine tennis in the team’s biggest league win of the season so far.

Sadly the team were unable to keep their winning run going against Kilmacolm, losing 5-4.

Sue and Susan lost all their sets, while Sarah and Sandra won one and just lost the third 7-5, while Anna, this time with Lesley Reeve as partner, won all three sets, coming back well to take the third 7-5.

The club’s ladies’ second team beat Broomhill 2 by five sets to four: Lesley Reeve and Louise Robertson won 6-1, 7-5, 6-3, while Lesley McGowan and Barbara McCall played patient and consistent tennis to win a lengthy match 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.

Fiona Macpherson and Catherine Gould lost their three sets but were unlucky to lose the second on a tie break.

In a ladies’ 60s match, meanwhile, Lesley McGowan was involved in another marathon against Whitecraigs. Susan Bell and Lesley played long rallies, with the slower courts proving it difficult to play outright winners, and lost by 6-7, 7-5, 4-6, while Fiona Macpherson and Catherine Gould lost their match.

The club’s ladies’ third team lost their penultimate league match to table-topping David Lloyd West End 4. The Craighelen team was Lorna Hunter and Anne Barrie, Elisabeth Sammon and Lyndsey Cromar, Eilidh Colman and Gwen Burbidge.

The men’s 60s team of Rob Colston, Jim McGowan, John Middleton and Russell Graves lost to Strathgryffe.
