HELENSBURGH Hockey Club are looking to add new players to their ranks as the club’s three teams prepare for the start of their 2018-19 league campaign next month.

The club’s first team, fresh from their West District second division championship triumph last season, get their first division fixtures under way at home to Hillhead 4 on Saturday, September 8.

Helensburgh’s second and third teams are in action on the same day in the West District’s third division, with the Burgh second team away to Giffnock 3 and the third team playing host to Clydesdale 5.

Club training started on Wednesday of this week, while junior training resumes on August 20.

The club is now looking for anyone who may be interested in playing hockey, no matter whether you have previous experience or are a total novice.

The club is set to achieve its silver accreditation through the Scottish Hockey accreditation scheme in September, proving it is a well-run and well-supported club.

The club is looking to build on the success from last season and push the first team right to the top of league hockey in the west of Scotland.

To support this, it now needs a competitive and strong second and third XI full of enthusiastic youngsters.

Head coach Alan Stuart has just completed his UKCC Level 2 coaching badge and will be leading training every Wednesday at Hermitage Academy – whilst Gordon Black, the club’s long standing junior coach, continues to help the youth develop, both on a Monday night, and at Hermitage Academy’s lunch time clubs.

Gordon said: “We are always looking out for more players, however if you feel you’re playing days are over, we would still love to have you involved.

“Whether it be as an assistant coach, an umpire or just as a supporter, we can find a role for you within our club.”

Training sessions are run at Hermitage Academy every Wednesday night from 8-9.30pm.

Junior training starts on August 20 and sessions will run on Monday evenings at Hermitage Academy, from 6.30-7.30pm for primary school age players and from 7.30-8.30pm for those of secondary school age.
