Rhu Amateurs secured their second win in a row during a match last weekend -despite playing their first game of the year.

The Saturday morning team played against Dunfermline’s Rosebank AFC on Saturday, February 3 and fought to win with a final score of 3-2.

They had not played since a victory in mid-December, and got straight back to winning ways against the Fifers.

Coach Sam Gemmell said: “The local team started the stronger and had a couple of chances in the opening minutes of the game but couldn't convert them.

“However, they were caught out after ten minutes when a hopeful long ball was missed in the air allowing the Rosebank forward to run in unopposed and slip the ball past Lewis in goal.

“With five minutes of the half remaining Dale Walker, the team’s top scorer, found the net from close range after some tenacious work by Martin Beaton.

“The delight of going in front didn't last long though as Rosebank equalised three minutes later to draw the team’s level at the break.”

The win was not secured until the end of the match as Rhu AFC scored what would be their winning goal with just ten minutes to go.

Sam added: “Second half took a similar pattern from the first with both teams cancelling each other out.

“With 10 minutes of the game left, debutant Ryan Jones sprung the high defensive line Rosebank were holding but which took him away from the goal.

“However, he managed to keep his head and composure as he controlled the ball at the back post and cut the ball back for the onrushing Walker to grab his second goal of the day.”

The squad consisted of Lewis, Kjorstad, Adams, Caldow, Moy, McConnell, R Beaton, Sinclair, Young, M Beaton, Walker, Jones, Bygrave, Brown, Shields, and Black.
