ARDENCAPLE under-17s sealed the Paisley Johnstone and District League title with a 3-1 win over Drumchapel United at the weekend.

The Helensburgh side won on their last game of the season to continue an impressive undefeated run which stretches back to February.

Caple were in pole position before their clash with United and duly finished the job. Ending the season with just two defeats in 24 games.

They are currently seven points ahead of their 2nd placed opponents who with only two games to play can’t catch them.

The first half was a keenly contested affair with both sides threatening. Drumchapel Utd took the lead after an effort from a corner was deflected in.

Their lead was short-lived however when Caple’s possession and pressing play was eventually rewarded with a well deserved goal.

A shot from the edge of the area from Scott Souden found the net. Half-time 1-1.

A large crowd roared both teams back onto the field after the break and it was not long before Fraser Fulton and Jack Dickson began to assert themselves in the Caple midfield to take control of the game.

Midway through the second half they were awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge felled Caple striker Kieran McPhee inside the box.

He calmly picked himself up and then gave the ‘keeper no chance with a superbly-struck penalty. Caple increased their lead five minutes later when Kieran converted a short-range volley following some fine build-up play.

Drumchapel were not going to give up without a fight, which ensured a tense finish to the match but they couldn’t break down a Caple defence that was well marshalled by Calep Phipps.

A couple of point-bank saves from Kyle Furphy in the Caple goal preserved the advantage.

Club chairman Craig Holborn said: “Well done to coach Davie Brown and his under-17s side for winning the league in their very first season in the Paisley and District. Credit to each and every one of you who played your part throughout a long and victorious season. Congratulations from everyone at Ardencaple FC – we’re all proud of you.”

The team will now make the jump to playing under-19s football next season. Any players interested in joining them can contact Craig in on 07546-033598.
