Helensburgh FC breezed through to the third round of the West of Scotland Cup on Saturday with a comfortable 11-0 home victory over Beith Meadowside.

Right from kick off the local team were on the attack and should have taken the lead within five minutes, but David Sinclair miskicked in front of goal.

Minutes later Steven Kirk also came close, his shot rebounding of the post with the keeper well beaten.

The onslaught continued, and it was no surprise when the opening goal came, Sinclair shooting home from an acute angle.

The second goal came soon after a Beith defender knocked in Derek Parks' corner into his own net.

Number three came from the head of Gordon Brodie, who rose like a salmon above everyone else to power home a header.

The next goal was scored by Scott Petro, after some good work down the left allowed him to dance past the keeper and walk the ball into the net.

The fifth and final goal of the first half fell to left back Stuart Bailey, who started and finished off a terrific team move to slot the ball past a now bewildered keeper.

With the instruction to keep the tempo high in the second half, Helensburgh continued to dominate the visitors.

Number six came from Sinclair again with a volley, Bailey got his second from the penalty spot, and Dale Walker got his fifth goal in four games when he found space in the box to rattle the ball past the keeper.

A flurry of substitutes brought fresh legs onto the park, which continued the trauma that the visitors defence were experiencing.

Ally Fagin netted his first goal for the club soon after coming on, fellow sub Steven Martin increased the lead further with a cool finish inside the six yard box, and the third sub of the day Ross Jeffries completed the scoring for the day with a well taken volley

Manager Sam Gemmell was delighted with the win, and said: "Despite the success we had last season we have had a very poor start to this one and it's been difficult to get things together due to players missing for one reason or another.

"However they are now beginning to come back and once again our squad is looking quite strong.

"The last two weeks have seen us play excellent football so hopefully we have turned the corner."
