HELENSBURGH footballer Aidan Wilson was sent off as Scotland’s under-19 squad lost out on a place in this summer’s European Championships in agonising fashion this week.
Wilson received a pair of yellow cards after giving away two penalties as the Scots conceded three goals in the final eight minutes to lose 5-4 to Norway in an astonishing final Elite Round match in Germany.
Tuesday’s defeat brought home the highs and lows of football to the former Hermitage Academy pupil, currently on loan to Dumbarton from Rangers, who had captained the young Scots to a 2-0 win over the Netherlands after a 3-0 loss to the host nation in their opening fixture.
But even if Scotland had held on to beat Norway on Tuesday, they would have missed out on the finals after Germany beat Holland 4-1 to secure their spot in Finland.
While the Scotland under-19s were losing out in Germany, Wilson’s Dumbarton team-mates suffered a Challenge Cup final hangover with a 5-0 thrashing at St Mirren on Tuesday night.
