The league will be open to amateur clubs, businesses, and individuals who wish enter a team.

Registration for the tournament is already underway and, with places already filling up, teams are being urged to register as soon as possible in order to avoid disappointment.

Colin Nicolson, Helensburgh Football Club chairman, said: “Helensburgh FC have always been at the forefront of the community spirit in Helensburgh and we are delighted to be able to give something back to Helensburgh and the surrounding area.

“We hope that the sevens league will bring people together from all walks of life and we are delighted that Waitrose have agreed to be a big part in this community event.” The tournament will take place at the 3G pitches at Hermitage Academy, starting on Friday, September 5 from 8-10pm.

Teams will play 8-9pm one week and 9-10pm the following week.

Organisers are hoping for 12 seven-a-side teams, with each side allowed a maximum 10 man squad and the tournament will then be split into two sections, playing a total of 15 games in 15 weeks with games scheduled for 25 minutes each way.

The top two from each section will play a straight knockout match for the Helensburgh FC and Waitrose Cup, whilst the bottom four in each section will play a straight knockout for the Helensburgh FC and Waitrose Plate.

Winners of the cup will be awarded £200 and runners up given £75. Meanwhile the winners of the plate will receive £75 and runners up £40 Each team will be required to pay £14 per week during league games and £20 for knockout stages to cover refereeing costs.
