Forty nine players took part in Saturday’s Pro-shop 11 hole Stableford at Helensburgh Golf Club.

Alan Scott took first place with 26 points. In joint second were Peter Mundie and Bob Berry each with 25 points.

The last week of the Frostbite Competition was played in magnificent weather on Sunday. The frosty start meant that winter greens were in play resulting in half handicaps being applied so scoring was expected to be tight.

Forty three players took to the course in search of a good score and dreams of an ace which would have pocketed them a very nice £454, but as is so often said on this page, no-one managed to get a hole-in-one – so the money goes safely into Fraser’s vault to be the starting purse of this feature later in the year.

Close followers of Frostbite will know that Craig MacPhee went out this week leading the field, only a bad round from him and excellent rounds from Alan Scott and Stephen Donald would have taken him off the top spot.

Craig showed what a great player he is by carding 28 points to leave the others behind by a country mile. Well done to Craig, a very deserving winner. Well done also to Stephen Donald, whose respectable 23 points nudged him into second place ahead of Alan Scott, whose average round of 19 points didn’t improve his average score.

Whilst Craig rightly gets credit for a magnificent performance over the nine weeks the competition has been played, this week’s winner is the very popular Terry Smith, who returned the highest score ever in Frostbite with 29 points.

Considering half handicaps only gave Terry two strokes, his card contained five birdies. Brilliant stuff and a great demonstration of golf at its best – well done Terry.

Special mention must go to Ramsay Howarth and Karl Powell who played in every one of the nine weeks when the competition was on, so well done for supporting the Frostbite event.

As there was an exceptionally large turnout the club held two scorecard raffles. These were won by Stephen Walker, who gets an Odyssey putter cover, and Liam Burns, who wins a sleeve of Titleist DT Solo balls.

Thanks to all who have played in this competition and for Fraser, Matt and Dominic for their assistance. The feedback from everyone has been great and we look forward to starting all over again at the end of the year.
