HM Naval Base Clyde achieved a first when it hosted the inaugural Royal Navy Scotland indoor rowing championships on Thursday September 9.
The base’s Commander Martin Claxton - a member of Loch Lomond Rowing Club - and Leading Physical Trainer Ray Houghton worked tirelessly to set up the venue in the site’s Sportsdrome, installing six indoor rowing machines and a computer generated racing simulator.
The competition was open to everyone at HM Naval Base Clyde regardless of experience or standard and it was hoped that it would help identify fresh talent to join the Scottish Indoor Rowing Team.
The action was split into three different age categories for individual races and the competitors had to row a distance of 2,000 metres in the fastest time possible.
