Stand in skipper Lewis won the toss and put Hillhead into bat and his team proceeded to bowl and field very well, getting Hillhead all out for 139.

The pick of the bowlers was Arachchi with 3/15 from eight overs, M.Christensen 3/38 from 10 overs and J.Allan 2/28 from six overs, backed up by G. Chambers with 0/23 from six overs.

With Helensburgh failing to pass 50 in their last two matches, this was going to be a challenging but achievable score. Ian Chambers and Stephens opened the batting and got off to a slow start but no wickets fell in the first five overs.

With Chambers falling LBW that brought Arachchi to the crease but Helensburgh were soon in trouble again and with the score 42/4 from 13 overs things were not looking good for the hosts.

However, the team showed real spirit and a great partnership by Arachchi and Lang took the score to 97 before Lang was bowled for 20.

Arachchi kept scoring freely and soon brought up his 50 and looked more and more likely to get Helensburgh over the mark.

With six runs to win Arachchi tried to win the game with a six and he was bowled for a superb 65.

The home teams nerves were shattered as young Chambers went to bat and was duly crowded by the Hillhead team, but when he hit a classic cover drive for two runs the scores were tied.

Like father like son he was also given out LBW, leaving it to last man C.Caskie to stroke the ball through point to win the match with 10 overs and just one wicket to spare.

After two weeks of batting worse than India this was a real morale boost.

The club would like to thank match sponsor James Leatherby, and key sponsors McArthur Stanton, The Buffet Shop and Babcock Marine.

Next week Helensburgh travel to Irvine for the last game of the 2014 season. Another win would end the season in high spirits and have everyone looking forward to the new campaign.
