The event will set him up for the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters in London.

The 23-year-old British number one will get the work-out he desires at Nottingham Tennis Centre, as he finds himself on the same side of the draw as his closest compatriot Marc McCarroll.

Reid is among 11 players who are hitting the courts in the East Midlands for the ITF Series 1 event en route to the year-end Masters at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, starting Wednesday, November 26.

Having captured his second Nottingham Indoor title in 2013, there are few better places for Reid to build momentum before heading to the English capital.

He said: “Really, this week is all about preparing for the NEC Masters, getting match practice in against some top opposition and going into my Masters campaign confident that I’m playing well.

“Obviously I would love to defend my title here in Nottingham, but everything’s geared towards next week for me.” Top seed Reid will face the winner of the first-round meeting between Korea’s Ho Won Im and Britain’s world number one junior Alfie Hewett.

And with McCarroll taking on either Silviu Culea of Italy or Dutchman Pim Palmen, Britain’s top two men’s players are on a collision course to meet in the quarter-finals on Friday.

The possible last eight meeting between the two continues a long history between them in Nottingham, with Reid getting past McCarroll three times at the event, including twice at the quarter-final stage.

Reid has not lost to the 29-year-old since 2012, with one of his three successive wins coming at the indoor event on the way to claiming last year’s title.

If the men’s singles in Nottingham progresses according to the tournament seeding, world number three Reid could meet Belgian world number nine Joachim Gerard, the 2013 Masters runner-up, in the semi-finals, with a potential final against another player he could meet next week.
