More than 100 skiers took to the sun-kissed slopes of Tignes on Monday for the Super-G event, which had been postponed over the weekend due to poor weather conditions.

And the 18-year-old was eligible to compete in both the National Championships and National Junior Championships due to his age.

Though admittedly the Super-G is not his favoured event, he excelled in his second run to pick up a bronze medal in the British Under-18 category.

The technical slalom and Giant Slalom events are yet to come and the Hermitage Academy pupil is eyeing the top of the podium.

“I’ve not trained a lot of Super-G this year and I was quite happy to come away with a third, I think it’s the best result I’ve had in Super-G definitely since the end of my children’s career,” said Kick. “I crashed out last year so it’s a big improvement.

“In my first run I made a few mistakes, one along the flat on the top, and then at the bottom again, but I was able to make up time for those in the second run – even though the course was a little bumpy.

“I’m looking forward to the tech events in the next few days, they will be what I’m looking at in order to take some wins.” Following the success of the Great Britain team at Sochi 2014 and with the support of Snowsport England’s national participation campaign Go Ski Go Board, it has been a tremendous year for British winter sports.

Go Ski Go Board started in September 2013 and more than 40,000 new people had taken at least one taster or coaching session through the campaign by the end of last year.

Kick can’t remember a time when he wasn’t in skis – and he admits the British Championships is one of his season highlights.

“It’s not quite a wind down for the end of the season but getting to see your friends that you’ve only seen maybe once or twice over the winter is great,” he added.

“People train in Austria, Italy, while I train in France. It’s good to see all the coaches and those who may be coaching me in the future.” As Principal Sponsor of British Ski and Snowboard, Delancey is proud to be able to provide British Athletes with the support and training they require to continue to be a real force in winter sports on a world stage.
