HELENSBURGH Netball Club’s first team got off to a flying start in their first match of the new season with a 43-42 win over Kelvin at Craigholm School last week.
The opposition had coasted through Division Three last season to secure a spot in Division Two and the new Burgh side were expecting a very tough match.
Nerves were obvious in the opening quarter. However play was quickly interrupted by a dislocated shoulder in the opposing team. Although the first team began to settle into the match eventually, Kelvin had the upper hand all the way through to the half-time whistle.
However, the second half was a different story and saw the Burgh ladies dig deep and bring the score to level by the end of the third.
The final 15 minutes were tense as the match threatened to swing either way as each team put in everything they had on court.
But as the final whistle blew a quick check of the official score confirmed that it was victory for the Burgh ladies. Final score 42-43.
Congratulations to Nicola McMahon who was named Player of the match.
