The Grizzlies were deducted three points by the SRU for not fufilling a fixture with Newton Stewart in October.

Burgh’s reason for not playing was on the grounds of player safety — they were without eight front row players for the tie..

However after a lengthy appeals process the SRU decided to uphold their orginal decision.

Cashmore was unhappy with the process the club had to go through to have their case heard as well as the decision taken.

He said: “We didn’t get the points back, Jon Simmons (club chairman) went along. The whole thing was a farce, but that is the SRU for you.

“Originally they said they were waiting for information from the West Region league. The only information the league had on it was the fact that we had been docked the points so that was an unnecessary delay.

“As I pointed out to them, they put it on their website that we had been docked points before the appeals process had been completed. To me that puts them under pressure to stick with their decision, they seemed to agree with that but it didn’t make a difference.” Meanwhile things have been looking up on the field for Helensburgh as they prepare to welcome Lenzie to Ardencaple on Saturday.

Postponements have meant Burgh have been out of action since January 24, however they have won three of their last four ties and can move up to fourth in the table with a win — providing Allan Glens lose to Glasgow Accies.

Cashmore believes there is now a better feeling around the club and their win over a Glasgow Accies side who had been on a great run was pivotal to Burgh’s season.

He said: “The spirit is really good, the Accies match helped confidence. The season could’ve gone either way, that game was pivotal.

“Lenzie have had good results at home but not as good away. You would expect us to win and that would put us in fourth with games in hand and set us up for the run in.” The Grizzlies were deducted three points by the SRU for not fufilling a fixture with Newton Stewart in October.
