The tournament is being played to raise money for a number of charities and the generous donation will be split between the five charities chosen by the teams’ captains.

Rob Henderson and Ian Gough’s Welsh and Irish legends team are supporting Velindre Cancer Centre, Cardiff, Junior Paramore’s Southern Hemisphere team are supporting The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, while the English select are supporting Rugby For Heroes and the Rugby League Legends team are backing Wooden Spoon, the rugby charity helping disadvantaged children.

Jason White’s Scottish legends are raising money for Maggies Cancer Centres and speaking after the cheque presentation Mark Cooper, centre fundraiser, Maggie’s Edinburgh, said: “Maggie’s provides free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their family and friends.

“We rely entirely on public donations to continue our work so events like the Helensburgh Vets tournament are vital in raising funds and awareness of Maggie’s.

“We would like to thank David, his team and the players for supporting Maggie’s and Jason White for choosing Maggie’s as a beneficiary. Maggie’s will have a promotional stand at the event so come say hello.” The Lodge on Loch Lomond and Xodus have already committed to sponsoring the event, as well as The Commodore Hotel but there a wide range of sponsorship opportunities still available, including main strip sponsors and smaller patch sponsors on the strips.
